Erdogan: Intense Efforts to End Conflict in the Middle East

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey is making intense diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East, which escalated after the Israeli-American attacks on Iran. Erdogan pointed out that attacks on Iran and counterattacks from Iran on neighboring countries are intensifying instability in the region and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution of problems through negotiations. The Turkish president underscored the importance of immediately mobilizing all resources to free the region from the current turmoil, before there is more bloodshed and escalation of hostility between countries. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the US envoy for Syria, Thomas Barrack, and British Foreign Secretary Ivette Cooper to discuss developments and diplomatic efforts that could be undertaken to end hostilities. Erdogan also held telephone conversations with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, and Nechirvan Barzani, President of the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, to discuss regional developments and coordinate efforts to de-escalate. Turkey seeks to play a constructive role in restoring stability to the Middle East, through diplomacy and dialogue.
