Erdogan Rejects Cyprus' Invitation to Informal EU Summit

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected an invitation to participate in the informal European Council summit to be held in Cyprus in April. Cyprus had proposed Erdogan's participation or that of his representatives, with the aim of creating positive developments in Turkey-EU relations. However, the response from Ankara was negative, according to statements by President Christodoulides. Despite the negative response, Cyprus will continue its efforts for dialogue and improving relations with Turkey. The invitation had been sent with the support of institutions and EU member states that have a special relationship with Turkey.
