Erhurman: Politicians Should Be 'Solution Providers' Not Part of the Problem

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman emphasized the need for politicians to not disconnect from society, but to be part of the solution to the problems. This statement was made during a ceremony commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the death of Fazil Kucuk, the first Vice President of the Republic of Cyprus. Erhurman stressed that the current leadership has a duty to continue a policy that prioritizes the future of the Turkish Cypriot community. He praised Fazil Kucuk as a leader who was close to the people, shared their concerns, and did not hide behind positions. He noted that Kucuk managed to maintain the identity and security of Turkish Cypriots in difficult times, walking on “thin lines”. Kucuk’s faith in the community remains, according to Erhurman, a guide for the future. Erhurman concluded by saying that the substantive understanding of Kucuk’s messages is the mission of the current leadership, in order to ensure the well-being of the Turkish Cypriot community.
