Farmers Protest Culling of Healthy Livestock in Cyprus

Farmers in the Livadia area of Larnaca are expressing strong reactions to the culling of asymptomatic livestock due to foot-and-mouth disease by the relevant authorities. Farmer Spyros Kyriacou claims that his animals are healthy and show no symptoms, but the Veterinary Services insist on their destruction, disregarding private veterinary examinations that prove their health. He also denounces a lack of transparency in the analyses and delays in implementing protective measures, such as restricting vehicle traffic and preventing access by wild animals to farms. Mr. Kyriacou states that he will not allow the authorities to enter his farm and questions the necessity of mass culling, calling for alternative solutions to be considered.
