Forest Department Director: Human Factor Behind Fires

The Director of the Forest Department, Savvas Iezekiel, stated that the fires that broke out in the Archimanrit area on Thursday afternoon were caused by human intervention, meaning arson. Despite the outbreak of the fires, no serious damage was caused due to high humidity, cloud cover, and early rainfall. The Forest Department took over the management of the fires, as the Fire Service faced difficulties due to lack of equipment and personnel in the difficult area. The fires were limited to the burning of dry grass, without threatening property or causing injuries. Mr. Iezekiel expressed his regret for the irresponsible actions that endanger the environment and public safety, while five different fire hotspots were identified.
