Frederick University Receives Athena SWAN Bronze Award for Gender Equality

Frederick University has been awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, a globally recognized accolade for promoting gender equality in higher education and research. The successful evaluation signifies a key indicator of quality and institutional commitment to gender equality and the creation of an inclusive academic environment. Frederick University is among the first in Cyprus to receive this distinction, as part of the Athena SWAN Cyprus program, initiated by the Cyprus Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CYQAA). The assessment process was demanding, involving self-assessment, data analysis, and the development of an action plan. The committee praised the university's commitment to gender equality, its strong governance structures, and initiatives like Women in STEM, which contributed to doubling the participation of women in the School of Engineering. The President of the University Council, Natassa Freiderikou, emphasized that the award recognizes the collective efforts towards an environment of equality, respect, and equal opportunities.
