Fuel Prices Continue to Rise: "Reintroduction of Subsidy is the Only Way Forward"

The Cyprus Consumer Association (CCA) expresses concern over the continued increases in fuel prices and proposes the reintroduction of fuel subsidies as the only way to relieve consumers. Since March 1st, prices for gasoline, diesel, and heating oil have risen significantly, and the CCA estimates that the increases will continue. Comparing current prices to those in effect when the initial subsidy was decided in 2022, the Association finds that prices are higher, while the Consumer Price Index has also increased. It believes that the economic strength of the state allows for the reintroduction of the subsidy, which could reduce prices by 8.3 cents per liter for gasoline and diesel and by 6.2 cents per liter for heating oil. The CCA calls on the Ministry of Finance to seriously consider the immediate reintroduction of the subsidy.
