Funeral Held in Iran for 'Martyrs' Killed During Protests

A funeral ceremony was held in Tehran on Wednesday for more than 100 members of the security forces and other 'martyrs' killed during the recent protests, state television reported. The ceremony, attended by thousands waving flags of the Islamic Republic, began with prayers for the deceased outside the University of Tehran. Authorities blame 'rioters' for the deaths of security force members, and also report that innocent bystanders were killed, describing them as 'martyrs'. Human rights groups estimate that the number of deaths in the protests is much higher.
