Gaza: Agreement Reached on 15-Member Technocrat Committee to Govern

The Egyptian government announced that an agreement has been reached regarding the members of the 15-member Palestinian technocrat committee that will take over the administration of the Gaza Strip, based on the peace plan of US President Donald Trump. The committee will aim to manage the daily life and basic services in the enclave. Trump's plan provides for the committee to be overseen by a Peace Council, chaired by Trump himself. A delegation from Hamas and Egyptian mediators met in Cairo to discuss the formation of the committee and its operating mechanisms, with discussions also expected with leaders of other Palestinian movements. The talks also focus on the ceasefire agreement and Israeli violations of it. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to issue a decree formally establishing the committee once the agreement is finalized. Two names have been proposed for the committee's presidency: Ali Saath and Majed Abu Ramadan. Hamas and Fatah must agree on the president to ensure unified support for the committee's work. Alongside this, discussions concern the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the reopening of the Rafah border crossing, and the entry of humanitarian aid. Bulgarian diplomat Nikolai Mladenov will oversee the operation of the Peace Council, while Trump is expected to announce the members soon, who are anticipated to be leading figures of international standing.
