Half an Hour Meeting, Zero Information: Presidential Office Avoids Answers

The first Cabinet meeting after the release of the video alleging illegal funding and corruption was completed in half an hour without any public statement from the President or cabinet members. The Presidential Office chose not to provide any information on the issues discussed, contrary to the established practice of the President's opening remarks. According to information, “procedural matters” were discussed, while any reference to the scandal was avoided. When asked about the future of the Independent Social Support Agency, the answer was that the issue “may” be discussed at a later meeting. Also, there was no official information on the appointment of a new Director of the President's Office, following the resignation of Charalambos Charalambous. At the same time, an emergency meeting of the Agency's Administrative Committee was held, where the First Lady was called upon to reconsider her decision to resign, which she rejected. The Committee submitted proposals to prevent the abolition of the Agency and to implement the Audit Office's regulation for the publication of the names of donors and amounts over €20,000, with their consent.
