Holy Synod to Introduce New Charter with Changes to Hierarch Dismissal and Legal Representation

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus is preparing a new charter that will include significant changes. Specifically, it is planned to dismiss hierarchs with a simple majority, instead of the three-quarters majority currently required. In addition, lawyers will be excluded from judicial proceedings within the Church, a change prompted by the delay observed in the case of the monks of the Monastery of Saint Avvakum. The announcement of elections for the throne of Paphos is postponed by approximately six months, as a compromise between Archbishop Georgios and Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, regarding the participation of lay people in the elections.
