Increased Measures at Checkpoints to Prevent Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the occupied territories, the Government has intensified measures to prevent the spread of the disease to the free areas. These include 24-hour coverage of crossing points from the occupied territories, with strict checks and disinfection of vehicles. In addition, inspections at livestock farms along the ceasefire line are being intensified. Over 40,000 vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease have already been carried out in the occupied territories, but the situation is considered critical. Veterinary Services are on alert and cooperating with the authorities of the British Bases, the Police, the army and livestock farmers to strengthen surveillance. Livestock farmers will be given instructions on creating disinfection areas on their farms. At the same time, efforts are being made to ensure the acceptance of halloumi shipments destined for Australia, taking into account the increased requirements due to the disease. A committee has also been formed consisting of representatives of the Veterinary Services and animal care professionals (cattle breeders, goat and sheep breeders, pig breeders and cheesemakers) to continuously monitor the situation and take necessary measures.
