Iran Backtracks After Trump Threats: 26-Year-Old Not Sentenced to Death

Iran appears to have backed down from its intentions to execute the 26-year-old Iranian arrested during the protests, following strong threats from Donald Trump. The Iranian judiciary announced that the 26-year-old has not been sentenced to death, but is accused of “conspiracy against internal security” and “propaganda against the regime.” The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that the country does not plan to execute protesters. US bases in the Middle East had been put on alert, but Trump said he received assurances that the executions had stopped and would “watch the situation.” At the same time, Trump estimated that the regime in Tehran could fall due to the protests.
