Iran Braces for Potential Execution of Protesters, Trump Warns of 'Very Strong' Action

Iran is at the center of a rapidly escalating international crisis, with Donald Trump warning of “very strong action” if Tehran begins executing protesters who participated in recent anti-government demonstrations. Human rights organizations are reporting thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of arrests, while the case of Erfan Soltani, a 26-year-old sentenced to death after a brief trial, has raised particular concern. The Iranian government blames “terrorist groups” for the violence, a justification disputed by the UN. Trump stated he will await “accurate numbers” for the casualty count before determining the US response, but left the possibility of military intervention open. Continuous meetings are being held at the White House regarding the crisis, and US allies appear divided on the appropriateness of a military response. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 2,403 protesters have been confirmed dead, including 12 children. Other organizations report even higher figures, reaching 2,571. Simultaneously, over 18,400 people have been arrested, while approximately 150 members of the security forces have also lost their lives. The situation in Iran is characterized by an unprecedented level of repression and fear of mass executions. The speed with which justice is being administered, as in the case of Soltani, is provoking strong reactions and being denounced as an attempt to intimidate the population.
