Iran: Over 3,400 Protesters Killed Since Start of Demonstrations

The non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR) announced that at least 3,428 protesters have been killed in Iran since the start of the demonstrations, with over 10,000 people arrested. The increase in the death toll is due to new information received from sources within the Iranian Ministries of Health and Education. IHR warns that the number of victims is likely much higher, as additional reports and testimonies have been received demonstrating the extent of the violence. The organization emphasizes that the reported number is an “absolute minimum” and that the actual situation is even more severe. The protests in Iran began in response to the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman arrested by the morality police for violating the dress code. They quickly escalated into a broader movement challenging the authority and policies of the Iranian regime.
