KNE: Welcomes European Strategies for Shipping and Ports

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) welcomed the recent publication of the European Strategy for Shipping and the EU Strategy for Ports, which highlight the crucial role of the maritime sector in strengthening energy security and protecting Europe’s supply chains. The strategies focus on investments in clean fuels, digitalisation and decarbonisation technologies, promoting the sustainability and competitiveness of ports. The European Strategy for Shipping emphasises the sector’s key role in energy security and supply chains, while the Strategy for Ports aims to expand the social role of ports with a focus on safety, security and digitalisation. The strategies also promote the green transition, integrating sustainable practices throughout the value chain. Cyprus, with one of the largest merchant fleets in the EU and the largest ship management centre in Europe, fully supports the strategies that strengthen Europe’s leading position in the maritime sector. The CSC recognises the importance of green investments to enhance competitiveness and ensure the sustainability of the industry. The CSC’s Director General, Mr. Iosifidis, stated that investments in clean fuels and decarbonisation technologies are vital for maintaining the competitiveness and resilience of European Shipping.
