Larnaca, a New University City: TEPAK School to Open in Mackenzie in 2028 - EKPA Branch in Oroklini
Larnaca aspires to become a new university city with the establishment of the School of Marine Sciences and Sustainable Development of TEPAK in the Mackenzie area. The Municipality of Larnaca has undertaken the construction of the facilities, which will be funded by a European loan. The school will have two departments, with the first program of study being marine biology, marine ecosystems and aquaculture, while the second will focus on sustainable development and a holistic approach to improving cities. The start of the programs is expected in 2028, with an effort to start the sustainable development program earlier, in 2027. The curricula have been designed with the help of academics from universities such as Cambridge and Oxford. At the same time, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) will also be housed on the same plot, which promotes sustainable development. The Rector of TEPAK, Panagiotis Zafeiris, noted that the development of schools in different cities is practically necessary, as the concentration of all facilities in Limassol is impossible. The creation of the school in Larnaca is expected to offer new opportunities and strengthen the academic community of the city.
