Larnaca EOA: No Waste Management Responsibility Without Clarity

The Larnaca Provincial Self-Government Organization (EOA) states it will not assume responsibility for solid waste management without full institutional, technical, and financial clarity. The President of the EOA Larnaca, Angelos Chatzicharalambous, emphasizes the need for serious planning and financial sustainability, rejecting hasty decisions or the transfer of responsibilities without a clear framework. The EOA points out that the national strategy for solid waste is still in the process of completion, with a horizon of 2028, and critical infrastructure, such as the Koshi unit, is still in the study phase. This indicates that significant technical and operational issues remain open. Mr. Chatzicharalambous stresses that waste management must be based on a comprehensive, functional, and financially sustainable model that ensures environmental protection and fair cost allocation. The EOA cannot take on responsibilities in a system with unclear parameters. Finally, the EOA states it is ready to contribute responsibly to a modern waste management policy, but this requires clear rules, serious planning, and genuine cooperation between the state and local authorities. The State is called upon to present a comprehensive and costed framework for waste management.
