Limassol KED Ready – Not Used So Far

The Limassol KED (Center) is on standby but has not been used so far, according to the spokesperson of the Civil Defense, Panagiotis Liasidis. The Civil Defense is expected to issue instructions within the day on the measures taken in such cases, following the drone incident at Akrotiri base. After being informed of the incident, the Civil Defense sent personnel to Akrotiri and staffed the Limassol office. Instructions were given to citizens that they can use the Limassol KED, however, no one has come so far. The KED was informed at 02:00 that people might come, but there were no movements. The Civil Defense is involved in the evacuation and communication is taking place with the British Bases Administration and the Local Government. An announcement with basic instructions on what citizens should do in such cases is expected to be issued, such as the use of neighborhood wardens and the SafeCY application to locate shelters. Mr. Liasidis stressed the importance of calm and characterized the measures as precautionary, with no reason for concern.
