French President Emmanuel Macron has openly accused the Trump administration of being anti-European and actively seeking to dismantle the European Union. In an interview published in several European newspapers, Macron argued for the creation of a common borrowing mechanism for the EU, such as through Eurobonds, to reduce reliance on the US dollar and boost European competitiveness in technological sectors. He stressed that Europe must confront trade threats and coercion from the US with determination, imposing a European preference in strategic areas. Macron emphasized that Europe must stop yielding to pressure and take a more proactive stance to protect its interests. He characterized the case of Greenland as a warning sign of potential future attacks from the US, highlighting that the threats have not ceased. He cautioned that Europe must be prepared for a continuous geopolitical rupture. The French President estimated that the total investment needs of the EU, including green and digital technologies, as well as defense and security, amount to approximately 1.2 trillion euros per year. He proposed simplifying rules and deepening the single market as key goals for strengthening the European economy. Finally, Macron called on Europe to “wake up” and overcome its “immaturity,” promoting trade diversification and strengthening its autonomy in critical areas. He underscored the need for a more decisive and united Europe, capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century.
