Mari Blast: Soldier Suffered Permanent Damage - 'Battle' at Supreme Court for Compensation

The Supreme Court of Cyprus has adjusted the compensation awarded to a soldier injured in the devastating 2011 explosion at the 'Evangelos Florakis' naval base in Mari. The court rejected the Republic of Cyprus' appeal to reduce the compensation and accepted the soldier's counter-appeal, increasing general damages from €80,000 to €90,000. This amount includes €50,000 for future loss of earnings and €40,000 for pain, suffering, and loss of amenities. The soldier suffered severe hearing damage and permanent tinnitus as a result of the explosion. The court ruled that the permanent injury affects his career path, as the hearing loss prevents him from working in certain professions. Additionally, €4,000 was awarded for the soldier's expenses.
