Meeting between DISY President and Minister of Justice focuses on tackling organized crime

The President of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, met with the Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, to discuss tackling organized crime and strengthening citizen safety. Ms. Dimitriou emphasized DISY's readiness to contribute to strengthening prevention and suppression mechanisms, stressing the need to strike at the root of organized crime. The President of DISY stated that they agree with the measures announced by the Minister of Justice, such as the confiscation of assets, the construction of new prisons, and the passage of a surveillance bill. She also supported the establishment of a special directorate for organized crime. An additional measure proposed by DISY is the installation of cameras in busy streets, aiming to prevent crime, identify perpetrators, and enhance security. Ms. Dimitriou reiterated that the safety of citizens is non-negotiable and requires immediate action. The meeting was described as constructive, and the commitment of both sides to cooperate was underlined, with the aim of restoring citizens' right to feel safe.
