Michalis Kontos: Limits of Euro-Atlantic Relations Being Tested

Deputy Professor of International Relations Michalis Kontos believes that President Trump's stance on Greenland is creating an unprecedented tension in Euro-Atlantic relations. Denmark and the EU are in a difficult position, as they must maintain strategic cooperation with the US and the viability of NATO while defending Denmark's territorial integrity. Mr. Kontos believes that an agreement could be reached, perhaps with a revision of the 1951 defense agreement, investments, and a limitation of Russian and Chinese influence. However, Trump's coercive diplomacy leaves a negative shadow on Euro-Atlantic relations and may push the EU towards strategic autonomy.
