Moldova Aligns with EU Sanctions Against Turkey Over Cyprus

Moldova has announced its alignment with the European Union's sanctions against Turkey over its activities in the Eastern Mediterranean. The decision, implemented by order of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popşoi, incorporates the measures imposed by the EU since 2019, due to the EU's disputed energy activities by Turkey in the region. The sanctions target Turkish companies and officials, including the state energy company TPAO, and restrict access to European funds. The EU hopes the sanctions will pressure Turkey to pursue a diplomatic solution to its disputes with Greece and Cyprus, while Moldova may face a deterioration in bilateral relations with Turkey.
