Mousiouttas: Social Partners Updated on Pension Reform

Social partners were updated on the key aspects of the pension reform by the actuary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, within the framework of the Labour Advisory Body. The Minister of Labour, Marinos Mousiouttas, expressed optimism that the timetable for the submission of the legislation of the first pillar of the reform to the new Parliament will be met by June. The discussion focused on the sustainability of the pension system, the adequacy of benefits and the equal treatment of beneficiaries. Social partners had the opportunity to express their views and submit questions, which were answered by the Ministry's actuary. Three more sessions of the Body are scheduled for March to continue the discussion. At the same time, the Ministry of Labour is also promoting the bill for equal pay for men and women for work of equal value, which aims to enhance transparency and address the gender pay gap. The implementation of the bill is expected in June 2026. Regarding the second pillar of the reform, a proposal for the timetable for discussion and a general outline for its operation is expected to be presented to the social partners, while its implementation is estimated to take at least three years.
