MP Shares Harrowing Account of 1974 Invasion Before Refugee Committee

MP Giorgos Penintaex moved the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees with his description of the events of 1974. He spoke of the loss of his comrades, the vaporization of another soldier from a mortar blast, and the psychological trauma he has experienced since. Although he receives an allowance for his service, he described it as insulting, amounting to only €8 per month. Mr. Penintaex expressed his full support for the demands of prisoners of war, veterans, and victims, emphasizing the need to recognize their contribution with a diploma or medal. The vice-president of the Veterans Association, Alkiviades Theori, stated that veterans feel ignored by the state and suffer from psychological problems, while criticizing the low amount of the allowance.
