N. Kaklamanis: "The EU's awakening must be permanent and not occasional"

The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, visited Cyprus and met with the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou. During the meeting, Mr. Kaklamanis expressed his hope that the EU's response to strengthening Cyprus's defense will not be a temporary reaction, but a permanent commitment to the security of Cyprus, which is considered an integral part of European security. He emphasized that any threat to Cyprus is a threat to the entire EU, as demonstrated by the Greece-Cyprus-France trilateral meeting and broader European support. Mr. Kaklamanis stressed that Greece stands in solidarity with Cyprus, offering unwavering support, and that the security of the island is a priority for Greece. The deployment of the Greek frigates Kimon and Psara, as well as the F-16 Viper fighter jets, sends a strong message of unity and solidarity. Furthermore, Mr. Kaklamanis reiterated Greece's position on the need for de-escalation of conflicts and a return to diplomacy, with respect for international law and freedom of navigation. Conveying the solidarity of Greece's democratic forces, Mr. Kaklamanis assured that Cyprus is a safe country and a reliable tourist destination. The visit of the President of the Parliament to Cyprus was undertaken on his own initiative and marks Greece's continued support for Cyprus, both politically and defensively. Mr. Kaklamanis pledged to convey the message of Cyprus's security and stability to European partners.
