Neocyprian League Criticizes Archbishop's Christmas Message as Undermining Reunification

The Neocyprian League has expressed deep concern over the recent Christmas message of the Archbishop of Cyprus, describing it as disappointing and dangerous. The League argues that the message failed to fulfill its pastoral purpose, ignored the need for social reconciliation, and deviated from the fundamental principles of Christian faith. Instead of a message of love and peace, an “extreme ideology” was presented, which undermines any prospect of reunification of Cyprus and perpetuates the division. The League emphasizes that the Archbishop's role is spiritual guidance, not the formulation of geopolitical strategies, and expresses regret for the rhetoric he has followed since his election. Furthermore, it warns that the history of 1974 serves as irrefutable evidence of the consequences of divisive rhetoric and reiterates its commitment to the reunification of Cyprus and peaceful coexistence.
