New Tax System in Cyprus: First Withholdings from Salaries in January 2026

The Cyprus Tax Department is preparing for the implementation of the new tax framework, which is expected to come into effect in January 2026. The most significant change concerns the direct withholding of income tax from employees' salaries. According to Tax Commissioner Sotiris Markidis, a general reduction in taxes is expected for taxpayers, depending on their individual data. The Tax Department is working on issuing a new form T.F.59, which will be available by January 9, 2026. Simultaneously, a guide and a collection of frequently asked questions will be published to assist with completing the form. To facilitate the process, a special electronic tool is being developed to calculate income tax for each individual. To inform employers, the Tax Department, in collaboration with the OEB, plans to organize online seminars in mid-January. Additionally, information days will be held in cooperation with the Association of Chartered Accountants of Cyprus. Mr. Markidis emphasized that a smooth transition to the new tax system is a priority for the Tax Department, and all necessary actions are being taken to ensure the best possible service for taxpayers.
