Nicosia Shopkeepers Plan Protest March Against City Hall

Shopkeepers in Nicosia's pedestrian areas are planning dynamic demonstrations, including a march to City Hall, protesting the actions of the Municipality which they claim undermine commercial activity in the walled city. They estimate that around 500 people will participate in the protest. The shopkeepers want to meet with the mayor and express their concerns about the city's redevelopment plans. They believe the proposed changes will have negative consequences for their businesses and employees. While they support the renovation of the pedestrian streets and the beautification of buildings, they oppose certain aspects of the plan, such as the expansion of pedestrian zones and the radical reconstruction of roads. They emphasize the need to maintain access to the area, increase parking spaces, and improve lighting. Furthermore, they express their support for the opening of Makarios Avenue and oppose the relocation of buses from Solomou Square. They also denounce the lack of transparency and meaningful consultation in the Municipality's decision-making process.
