Norway's PM Confirms Trump's Message: 'Asked for De-escalation'

Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed on Monday that he received a message from US President Donald Trump over the weekend, in which the latter stated he no longer felt obligated to prioritize peace because he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In his message, Trump expressed his desire for full control of Greenland. Støre clarified that Norway has no authority in awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, as the decision is made by an independent committee. This comes after Trump's message stated that he was no longer bound to consider peace 'exclusively' but could now focus on what is 'good and right' for the United States. The escalation of Trump's rhetoric surrounding Greenland and his declaration of moving away from the role of peacemaker have raised concerns. Trump threatened to impose tariffs on European countries that oppose his plans for Greenland, prompting European Council President Antonio Costa to call an emergency EU summit. Trump has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, unlike Barack Obama, who received it in 2009. Trump claims to have ended at least eight international conflicts, a claim that has been disputed by fact-checking organizations.
