One Body, Two Schools of Trade Unionism

The recent decision by the Chief of Police to change working hours has caused disagreements among the police trade union organizations. “Equality” chooses a tougher stance, immediately resorting to the Administrative Court and planning a protest outside the Parliament on January 21st. They believe that trust in the leadership has been irreparably damaged. In contrast, PASYDY and the Police Association of Cyprus (PAC) prefer the path of dialogue, insisting on the process of the Joint Personnel Committee of the Police (MEPA). However, they warn of possible reaction measures in case of negotiation failure, which will be considered after the meeting on January 27th. The difference in these strategies highlights a deeper disagreement about how to deal with problems and the effectiveness of negotiation versus rupture. The article explores which approach will ultimately bring the desired result for the police officers.
