Pakistan Hosts Talks with Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia on Hormuz

Pakistan hosted talks with representatives from Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia in an effort to mediate an end to the conflict in Iran. Initial discussions focused on proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, as Iran has effectively blocked the flow of ships from there in response to US-Israeli attacks. The foreign ministers of the three countries met in Islamabad as global oil prices have soared due to the ongoing conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel. The countries involved in the talks have submitted proposals to Washington regarding maritime traffic and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz daily. Proposals include the creation of a consortium to manage oil flows, with potential participation from Pakistan, and the charging of fees similar to the Suez Canal. Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt have played a role in the diplomatic effort to restore stability to the region. Turkey is prioritizing securing a ceasefire, while Pakistan is in regular contact with the US delegation.
