Permanent EU Military Presence in Cyprus Proposed

The President of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, proposed the establishment of a permanent European Union military presence in Cyprus, arguing that this would strengthen the island's geostrategic importance and the European presence in the region. This proposal follows recent attacks on Israel and the increased military presence of European countries in Cyprus, which, according to Mr. Papadopoulos, has enhanced the sense of security among Cypriot citizens. Furthermore, Mr. Papadopoulos referred to the need for a common European defense and security policy, as well as a smooth return to normalcy after the cessation of hostilities. He also commented on the smooth repatriation process of Cypriots from the Middle East and the need to support producers in the free province of Famagusta.
