Phytiris: Two Police Officers to Face Justice

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Phytiris, stated that the cleansing within the Police force is progressing alongside its effectiveness in combating crime. The statement comes following the arrest of two police officers – a constable in Larnaca for assault and a special police officer in Paphos for assault and battery – which allegedly occurred off-duty. The Minister emphasized that the cases are being investigated seriously and the individuals involved will be brought before justice. He stressed the state's determination to strengthen discipline, accountability, and the operational effectiveness of the Police. Mr. Phytiris stated that behaviors inconsistent with the principles and mission of the force will not be tolerated and will be addressed within the framework of legality. At the same time, he congratulated police officers who have achieved successes in combating illegality. The Minister's statement underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the Police, as well as protecting citizens from crime. The emphasis on discipline and accountability aims to restore public trust in the Police.
