Positive Outlook for Water Inflows to Reservoirs Until End of March

The Water Development Department (WDD) expresses optimism for good water inflows to reservoirs until the end of March, as forecasts predict rain from Thursday onwards. The inflow of the last three days amounts to 2 million cubic meters of water, an increase compared to previous days. First Technical Engineer Marios Chatzikostis estimates that the inflow will continue to increase, with approximately 1.5 million cubic meters per day from tomorrow and over one million cubic meters per day from Thursday onwards. Based on this data, it is estimated that last year's low reserves will be exceeded. Specifically, the fullness of the dams today is 21.8%, i.e. 63.3 million cubic meters, while last year at the same time it was 25.1%, i.e. 72.9 million. However, this difference is expected to be covered within a week. The situation is particularly better in the province of Nicosia. In addition, the enrichment dams (Tamasos, Klerou, Solia) show increased water levels, while the dams with irrigation projects (Vizakia, Xyliatos, Kalopanagiotis) also have increased inflows. Overall, the situation in the dams is significantly improved compared to last year, indicating that the year will be less difficult in terms of water supply and irrigation.
