President Optimistic on Potential Meeting with Turkish Cypriot Leader
The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed optimism that the Turkish Cypriot leader will accept a proposal for a meeting, noting that there is no reason to decline. Speaking on the sidelines of a charity run in Ayia Napa, the President also referred to the issue of British Bases, stating that the relevant issues will be discussed with the British side. When asked about the long-standing deadlock in the Cyprus issue, President Christodoulides emphasized the need to reach an end to the “marathon” of negotiations, expressing hope that there will be a similar response from all sides, so that political will can be translated into concrete initiatives with tangible results.
