A recycling problem in Cyprus has come to light, revealing that certain materials, such as baby diapers, electrical conduits, and children's toys, lack collective management systems, despite European obligations. The Vasiliko Cement Factory had refused to accept these materials in recycling residues due to their hazardous and flammable nature, like vaping batteries. After negotiations, Greendot committed to better sorting, and collections resumed. However, non-recyclable residues end up in landfills. The chairman of the House Environment Committee blames the Department of Environment for delays in organizing the separate collection of hazardous household waste.
