Request to Lift MP Sykas's Immunity Being Examined

The Legal Service of Cyprus is proceeding with a request to lift the parliamentary immunity of Nikos Sykas, despite the withdrawal of the complaint by the woman who accused him. The spokesperson of the Legal Service, Paulina Evthivoulou, clarified that the Supreme Court has a duty to issue a reasoned decision regarding the lifting of immunity, regardless of the defendant's status as a Member of Parliament. The Legal Service will present all the evidence at its disposal for the Court to judge. The withdrawal of the complaint does not change the fact that the investigative authorities have a duty to investigate a case in all its dimensions. The peculiarity of the case lies in the fact that parliamentary immunity prevented the investigation of Mr. Sykas.
