Rescuers Mobilized for 8 Hikers Stranded in Taygetus Gorge

An alarm was raised in Taygetus on Sunday afternoon as eight hikers became stranded in a gorge in the Prophet Elias area. The hikers slipped under unclear circumstances and are in a safe spot but unable to move. A large-scale rescue operation is underway, involving two EMAK teams, 41 firefighters, and the Icarus team (drone) of the Peloponnese. A helicopter is also providing aerial support. The mountainous terrain is particularly difficult, making the rescue operation more complex. Authorities are expected to provide a further official update on the progress of the work. Initial reports indicate that the hikers are in good health, but their safe retrieval is a priority for the rescue teams.
