Second Health Reform on Hold - Details on the National Clinical Documentation Center

The second major health reform in Cyprus, the establishment of the National Clinical Documentation Center, has been put on hold due to disagreements regarding its operation. Initially, the bill submitted to Parliament differed from the one prepared by the coordinating committee, causing reactions from stakeholders such as the Pan Cypriot Medical Association, the Pan Cypriot Bar Association, and the Federation of Patient Associations of Cyprus. The main disagreement concerned the fact that the Center would not have a board of directors and would operate as a state-owned company with the state as the sole shareholder. After a meeting under the Minister of Health, Neofytos Charalambides, it was decided that the Center would be registered as a state-owned company with a board of directors consisting of representatives of the involved stakeholders. The Center's articles of association will determine its operation, while its responsibilities and objectives will remain as provided in the legislation. The Center will be responsible for drafting protocols and guidelines, monitoring the quality of health services, and overseeing the operation of the sector. The legislative regulation of the Center is expected to proceed in early February, after the Legal Service completes the revision of the bill.
