Seven deaths of patients with laboratory-confirmed influenza have been recorded in Cyprus since the beginning of the epidemic season. The Ministry of Health held an emergency meeting to better coordinate efforts to address the outbreak of seasonal infections. The deceased are elderly individuals with comorbidities, and a total of 98 people have been hospitalized, 85 in state hospitals and 13 in private hospitals. The meeting at the Ministry of Health aimed to manage patients requiring hospitalization through cooperation between the public and private sectors. Representatives from the OKYPY, the OAY, and private hospitals participated. Dr. Konstantinou assured that the health system is adequately prepared and that the necessary preparations have been made, with a focus on vaccination. At the same time, the Ministry of Health appeals to the public to observe personal protection measures, especially vulnerable groups. Good hygiene, wearing a mask in closed spaces, and avoiding contact with people showing symptoms are vital to limiting the spread. According to the data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit, of the 98 hospitalized cases, 39 were confirmed by molecular diagnosis and 59 by rapid antigen tests.
