Published January 21, 2026, 08:30

Spyros Enotiadis, a former DEA associate with decades of experience in combating drug trafficking and arms dealing, spoke about the recent operation in Venezuela targeting President Nicolás Maduro. Enotiadis, known for his ability to infiltrate cartels and arrest leaders such as Chigbo Peter Umeh and Al Kasar, emphasized the four-month preparation of the operation and the presence of agents who were thoroughly familiar with the conditions in the presidential palace. He also highlighted the use of advanced technology, specifically weapons emitting high-frequency sound waves for immobilization, to avoid casualties. The operation, carried out by the elite DELTA Force team led by Colonel Chris Kountouriotis, was the result of a series of factors, including the increase in drug trafficking from Venezuela. According to Enotiadis, the final straw was the transfer of five tons of cocaine to Venezuela by two Colombian planes shortly before the operation. Enotiadis stated that the timing of the operation was not coincidental, as the US sought to address the growing influence of drug trafficking in the region. He expressed the view that the European Union should maintain unity and composure in assessing such developments, as the challenges are geopolitical and increasing in complexity. The operation in Venezuela, according to Enotiadis, is an example of the effectiveness of the DEA and US special forces in combating organized crime and ensuring security in the region. He stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between international partners to address common threats.
