St. Anthony the Great Feast Day Celebrated Today

Today, January 17th, the Church honors St. Anthony the Great, St. Theodosius the Great, and St. George the New Martyr of Ioannina. St. Anthony was born in Egypt around 250 AD and demonstrated strong religious devotion from a young age. After the death of his parents, he distributed his wealth to the poor and withdrew into the desert to live an ascetic life for 25 years. His reputation spread, and many people visited him for advice and healing. He later moved to Mount Kolxim, where he continued his work. He maintained correspondence with Emperor Constantine the Great and his sons, advising them on various matters. St. Anthony taught the love of Christ and the valuing of spiritual goods over material ones. He passed away at the age of 105, leaving behind a rich legacy of faith and virtue. His relics were transferred to Alexandria and later to Constantinople.
