Supreme Court Lifts Immunity of Marinos Sizopoulos

The Supreme Court has decided to lift the parliamentary immunity of former EDEK President Marinos Sizopoulos, following a request from the Attorney General. The decision was based on evidence from the Independent Authority Against Corruption's report and testimonies implicating Mr. Sizopoulos in offenses related to the sale of shares of TAXAN Properties Developers Ltd to an Iraqi investor. The case resurfaced after new complaints from former EDEK MP Giorgos Varnava. The Anti-Corruption Authority recommended investigating Mr. Sizopoulos for offenses such as fraud, forgery, and conspiracy. Mr. Sizopoulos expressed hope for an objective investigation, while his defense disagreed with the factual events of the case.
