Tax Incentives for 'Talents' in Cyprus Spark Debate – Will Waiters Benefit?

The Cypriot government is promoting a tax incentive scheme, “Minds in Cyprus,” to attract “talents” from abroad. The scheme provides generous tax exemptions, potentially reaching 25% of earnings with a maximum of €25,000, combined with existing tax deductions. However, the implementation has sparked debate in the Parliamentary Finance Committee, as it is seen as creating unequal treatment between workers already in Cyprus and newcomers. Furthermore, there is concern that the scheme will also benefit individuals without high qualifications, such as waiters who worked abroad, provided they meet certain criteria, like residing outside Cyprus for at least seven years. MPs are calling for a review of the scheme's provisions to ensure fairness and effectiveness.
