Taxi Drivers in Larnaca Stage Work Stoppage Over Ride-Hailing Apps

Taxi drivers in Larnaca began a four-hour work stoppage today, protesting against uncontrolled competition from ride-hailing applications, particularly at the airport. The Pan-Cypriot Federation of Urban Taxi Drivers (POAT) demands the immediate disconnection of app signals outside their licensed area and strict adherence to taxi base regulations. If their demands are not met, they warn of a 24-hour strike on January 20th, followed by an indefinite strike on January 28th. POAT accuses the relevant authorities of inaction despite repeated meetings. The Licensing Authority expressed surprise and concern over the mobilizations, calling on POAT to cancel them, warning of potential negative impacts on the economy and tourism.
