Trump: "They Desperately Want a Deal" on Iran – Expresses Disappointment with Starmer

Donald Trump stated that Iranian leaders are now showing a willingness to begin negotiations for a ceasefire, but argued they should have moved in that direction earlier. In an interview with The Telegraph, the former US president mentioned that military operations were scheduled to last up to four weeks, but were completed much faster due to Iran’s rapid change of attitude. Trump emphasized that Iran "desperately wants a deal" and expressed disappointment that they didn’t do so sooner. He argued that they could have neutralized Iranian leadership in two or three weeks, but did so in one day, due to Iran’s willingness to negotiate. Alongside this, Trump expressed strong dissatisfaction with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, accusing him of initially blocking the use of the US Diego Garcia base for strikes against Iran. Trump believes Starmer’s initial refusal was unprecedented in bilateral relations, stating that Starmer was concerned about the legality of the actions. The British government initially refused to allow the use of its bases, citing international law, but eventually revised its position, allowing the use of Diego Garcia for specific defensive purposes. Trump commented that Starmer was "excessively slow" to change his position and reiterated that Iran is responsible for the deaths of "many people from your country".
