Turkey's Energy Outreach to Five Countries: 'Strengthens its Position in the Eastern Mediterranean'

Turkey is presenting a series of energy agreements with Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, claiming that these strengthen its position in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Turkish newspaper Türkiye emphasizes Turkey's role as a key point for energy transfer and mentions a $2 billion agreement with Saudi Arabia for solar energy projects. The newspaper also refers to the upgrading of relations with Egypt, stating that the agreements have a positive impact on the security of the Eastern Mediterranean. In Libya, a new round of licensing is expected for energy projects. Turkey intends to carry out seismic surveys in Pakistan, Somalia, and Libya in 2026, potentially using the Oruç Reis or Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa research vessels. Turkey seeks to strengthen its role as an energy hub and promote its interests in the Eastern Mediterranean through these agreements.
