Turkish Cypriot Sheep and Goat Farmers Seek Support in Occupied Territories

Turkish Cypriot sheep and goat farmers in the occupied territories are facing significant financial difficulties due to the inability to sell their livestock, coupled with high feed costs. The president of the 'Association for the Protection of the Karpas', Dursun Çebi, is calling for immediate support measures from the authorities, including regulating meat imports. The situation is worsening ahead of new births at the end of January, increasing maintenance costs. Mr. Çebi highlights the competition from meat imported from the free areas, which is more competitive due to lower feed costs. Without immediate support, many small producers will be forced to leave the profession, leading to increased dependence on foreign sources and rising prices.
